Federal court orders full reinstation of the DACA program

On Dec. 4, a New York federal court ruled that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) must fully reinstate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, designed to provide deportation protection and work authorization to certain unauthorized immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children.

Standing for physicians

The AMA Litigation Center is the strongest voice for America's medical profession in legal proceedings across the country.

The court also ordered DHS to provide regular updates to ensure compliance with this ruling including a report on the acceptance of new applications which may begin as early as Dec. 7.

This ruling follows the recent June 2020 Supreme Court decision, blocking the Trump Administration's attempt to rescind the DACA program, a case for which the AMA, in collaboration with other leading health organizations, wrote an amicus brief to highlight the impact of changes in DACA policy on physicians.
