Summary of CPT Editorial Panel Actions & meeting minutes

Updated | 3 Min Read

After each CPT Editorial Panel meeting, a document is prepared summarizing the actions that were taken by the Panel on each of the code applications. To provide transparency in the decision-making process, meeting minutes and voting results, along with the summary documents, are included on this page for the last five years.

Visit the Panel actions archive page for summary documents from earlier years.

Note: Codes that contain an ‘X’ (e.g., 102X4, 23XX, 031XT) are placeholder codes that are intended, through the first three digits, to give readers an idea of the proposed placement in the code set of the potential code changes.

These codes are not used for claims reporting and will be removed and not retained when the final CPT Datafiles are distributed in September of each year. To report the services for “X” codes, please refer to the actual codes as they appear in the CPT Datafiles publication distributed in September of each year.

Note: Codes that contain an ‘X’ (e.g., 102X4, 234XX, 031XT) are placeholder codes that are intended, through the first three digits, to give readers an idea of the proposed placement in the code set of the potential code changes.

Please be aware that because future Panel actions may impact these items, codes are not assigned, nor exact wording finalized, until just prior to publication.

The Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) codes, descriptors, and other language in these minutes are not final and may be subject to change. Only codes, descriptors, and language published in the official CPT code set or otherwise approved and released by the AMA are final.

Approved CPT changes follow a structured implementation schedule. Most changes are incorporated into the annual CPT code set and become effective on Jan. 1, with code books released in advance to support implementation. Certain categories of codes, including Category I immunization codes, Category III codes, Proprietary Laboratory Analyses (PLA) codes and Administrative Multianalyte Assays With Algorithmic Analyses Codes (MAAA) codes, follow alternative release schedules to allow adequate preparation time.
